OUR PRINCIPAL – Julie Gallagher
Julie Gallagher has been a certified and passionate Montessori Teacher for over 14 years. She graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts in 2001, and later obtained her diploma as a certified Montessori teacher in 2002 from the Toronto Montessori Institute (TMI). She has enjoyed working in various schools throughout the GTA, including the Toronto Montessori School (TMS), before joining the Mastermind Montessori family.
Apart from being a respected and loving teacher in the Casa classroom, Julie is also a mentor teacher for various training institutes, an educational consultant and an examiner with the Toronto Montessori Institute (TMI). Ms. Gallagher joined the Mastermind Montessori School family five years ago, and has proven to be a great support and advisor, both educationally and professionally. She is well versed in the policies and procedures followed at Mastermind and the curriculum goals of the Montessori program.
Julie is competent in her understanding of the many policies surrounding the Ministry of Education and the Child Care and Early Years Act. She is a devoted and fervent educator who considers the children in her care, and her many colleges, an extension of her family.
It is an honour and privilege to introduce myself as the principal of Mastermind Montessori Schools Aurora. Although new to the position, I’m a familiar face within the Mastermind Family and the Montessori community.
For the past 14+ years, I have passionately followed my dream of working in the education field. It has been my pleasure to work in many different schools, in different positions, all the while learning and developing together with many families and children; finally making a home for myself at Mastermind Montessori Schools Markham. Over the course of my career I have been fortunate enough to work as a Casa teacher, a Mentor Teacher to many new and inspiring teachers through Toronto Montessori Institute and other training centres, and as an educational consultant with Toronto Montessori Institute.
For me, Montessori is not just a philosophy to follow simply during the school day, but rather a way of life. It is allowing the child the freedom to choose what drives them, what they desire most to study and pursue, and allows them the opportunity to make a solid connection between learning and the world around them. As Maria Montessori says, “the goal of childhood education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn.” It has been, and will continue to be my aim to help guide each child in reaching their potential academically, socially and emotionally; and to assist them in recognising their own capacity to make a difference in the world.
As principal, my objective is to drive the school, and model for its teachers these passions and aspirations, and to instil within them the importance of building strong relationships between children, families and staff. We at MMS pride ourselves on the relationships we share within the school and its surrounding community, and are proud to call our students and parent body, “family.” Strong parent relationships, communication and understanding are paramount to providing a successful, positive, nurturing educational experience for the child.
My passion has been, and will always remain within education. With that in mind, I look forward to guiding the children of today to becoming the leaders of tomorrow; to preparing young minds for tomorrow’s challenges.
