Experiment Descriptions

Monday

Fizzing Colours

During this experiment the children will get a chance to work with primary and secondary colours, while the colours mix the children will get to discover their mixed colours.  They will also use their senses while smelling the vinegar and hearing what happens when baking soda and vinegar are mixed.  While using a medicine dropper the children will help develop fine-motor skills, pencil grasp as well as eye hand co-ordination.

Tuesday

Bubble Blowing Activity

During this experiment the children will be working a lot with sensory: smelling the bubbles, looking at the bubbles and lastly touching the bubbles.  They will also increase their pincer grasp while holding the straw and their eye hand co-ordination skills.

Wednesday

Oil and Water Experiment

The children will learn that water and oil don’t mix due to the fact that oil is less dense than water and also because the molecules are more attracted to each other than to oil molecules.  This experiment is great for the children because they will be increasing their pincer grasp as they use the droppers as well as strengthening their eye hand co-ordination.

Thursday

Sink or Float Sensory Experiment

During this experiment the children will get a chance to experiment with objects that sink or float.  The children will be encouraged to talk about why they think certain objects float and why some objects sink.  They will also be participating in this experiment while engaging in conversations and adding different materials to water.  In this experiment the children will increase their critical thinking skills as well as their sensory as the touch and feel different materials.

Friday

Hidden Colours Experiment

During this activity the children will have fun while playing the “guess the hidden colour game”.  They will also learn about cause and effect while squirting the vinegar on the baking soda and discover primary and secondary colours.  While the children get a chance to squeeze the squirt bottles they will be working on increasing their grip as well as their eye hand co-ordination.

*This Daily Routine will remain flexible due to the child’s interest.

Experiment Descriptions

Monday

Secret Message with Invisible Ink

In this activity, the children will use simple ingredients to create a secret message to a friend. In this experiment the children will develop and deepen their skills to communicate by learning new words.  Within the cognitive domain, children will enhance enquiry by making and testing the invisible ink to write a message.

Tuesday

Let’s Make Rain Clouds

Rain, rain, go away… Watch how rain falls from the  clouds. In this fun activity, children get to see how rain clouds are formed and how rain moves through the clouds.

Wednesday See a Plant Drinking

Watch and learn how water is absorbed through the plant. What do plants eat?  What do they need to live?  In this exercise, the children get to observe as the (coloured) water travels through the flowers.  What a beautiful sight!

Thursday

Making Fireworks

Is your child fascinated with colours and fireworks? Food colouring dissolves in water but not oil.  When coloured droplets are added, they will begin dissolving into the water creating tiny explosions.

Friday Homemade Lava Lamps

Calming and fun.  Watch the colourful liquid swirl around in a bottle. Learn how to make a lava lamp with this fun experiment.  Use simple household items and watch the funky balls of colour move around like real lava lamps.
